Indonesia – Passport and Visa Required

Visa Requirements for U.S. Citizens

TOURIST VISA

  • Valid and signed U. S. Passport (valid at least 6 months from the date of entry; with at least one blank visa page)  – photocopy is not acceptable (NOTE: For applications for 1 year multiple entry visa, the passport must be valid for at least 1 year from the date of entry into Indonesia)
  • Two recent color photographs (passport size) with white background on picture-quality paper. Note: Do not staple or affixed the photographs on the form.
  • One Visa Application Form – Application form MUST be completed Online.
  • Copy of inbound and outbound travel itinerary or a letter from travel agents, airline, steamship company, confirming the purchase of tickets.
  • Applicants under 18 years of age should attach a notarized copy of birth certificate. In addition, a notarized letter of consent signed by non-traveling legal guardian must be attached if the applicant under 18 years of age travels without the legal guardian.
  • Letter of employment, indicating the employment status of the applicant. For retiree, please submit proof of the retirement fund. For students please provide letter of intent from the school stating that the student still enrolled at the school.
  • Copy of bank statement, indicating the current applicant’s bank account in the last two weeks, or a letter from the bank stating that the applicant has a sufficient fund.
  • Inoculation is recommended but not mandatory, and is required only if applicant had previously traveled to areas/ countries infected by yellow fever.

Tourist Visa Exemption for US Citizens

Effective from June 10, 2015, US Citizens and foreign nationals of 45 countries and territories may be eligible for a Tourist Visa Exemption.

This type of visa is granted for 30 days, non-extendable and cannot be converted into another type of visa (valid for tourism purpose only).

The visa exemption can only be applied at certain immigration checkpoints, as follows:

  1. Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Jakarta
  2. Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali
  3. Kualanamu International Airport, Medan
  4. Juanada International Airport, Surabaya
  5. Hang Nadim Interntational Airport, Batam
  6. Sri Bintan Pura Seaport, Tanjung Pinang
  7. Batam Center Seaport, Batam
  8. Sekupang Seaport, Batam
  9. Tanjung Uban Seaport, Tanjung Uban.

The complete list of visa-free countries and territories are as follows:

SOCIAL VISIT

(To visit family/relative, social or cultural exchange, charity/humanitarian, etc.)

  • A passport with at least 6 months validity for single entry or 1 year for multiple entry, from the date of entry into Indonesia, which has at least one blank page for visa (amendment and endorsement pages cannot be used for visa).
  • Two recent color photographs (passport size) with white background on picture-quality paper. Note: Do not staple or affixed the photographs on the form.
  • One Visa Application Form – Application form MUST be completed Online.
  • Letter of invitation from family, social organization, school/university or cultural residence in Indonesia, which describes the purpose of the visit and guaranteeing all transportation and living expenses that will incur during stay.
  • Copy of the K.T.P (Indonesian ID Card) of the principal/person who signed the letter of Invitation if the person is an Indonesian citizen.
  • Copy of KIMS/KITAS (Indonesian Immigration’s temporary stay permit) of the principal/person who is a non-Indonesian citizen that sponsoring your visit, or Identification card for foreigner. Foreign citizen in Indonesia who does not have KIMS/KITAS nor Identification Card for Foreign National could not sponsor a family visit.
  • Copy of inbound and outbound travel itinerary or a letter from travel agents, airline, steamship company, confirming the purchase of tickets.
  • Applicants under 18 years of age should attach a notarized copy of birth certificate. In addition, a notarized letter of consent signed by non-traveling legal guardian must be attached if the applicant under 18 years of age travels without the legal guardian.

Limited Stay Visa is a single entry visa issued for a visit that is related to work and to other purposes such as investment, research, family unification, performance, sport, social activities, retired/senior citizen, etc.

The holder of the Limited Stay Visa is able to extend the visa and to obtain the temporary permit (KIMS/KITAS) once he/she arrives in Indonesia. The single/multiple exit and re-entry permit are able to obtain from the Directorate General of Immigration if the holder of the Limited Stay Visa is planning to exit and re-enter Indonesia within the period of valid stay permit.

Requirements:

  • A passport which has at least one blank page for visa (amendment and endorsement pages cannot be used for visa), with at least: a. 12 months validity for 6 months stay; b. 18 months validity for 12 months stay; or c. 30 months validity for 24 months stay
  • Two recent color photographs (passport size) with white background on picture-quality paper. Note: Do not staple or affixed the photographs on the form.

  • Limited Stay Visa Authorization Letter from the Indonesian Directorate General of Immigration. Note: An application will not be processed without a formal notification of authorization from the Indonesian Directorate General of Immigration. To initiate and expedite the process of the Authorization, it is advisable that the applicant’s sponsor in Indonesia submit a request for authorization to the Directorate General of Immigration in Jakarta, Indonesia. Please make sure that the notification is addressed to the Indonesian Embassy/Consulate Generals in which the visa will be issued.
  • Applicants under 18 years of age should attach a notarized copy of birth certificate. In addition, a notarized letter of consent signed by non-traveling legal guardian must be attached if the applicant under 18 years of age travels without the legal guardian.
  • Inoculation is recommended but not mandatory, and is required only if applicant had previously traveled to areas/ countries infected by yellow fever.

BUSINESS VISA

  • Valid and signed U. S. Passport (valid at least 6 months from the date of entry; with at least one blank visa page)  – photocopy is not acceptable (NOTE: For applications for 1 year multiple entry visa, the passport must be valid for at least 1 year from the date of entry into Indonesia)
  • One Visa Application Form – Application form MUST be completed Online.
  • Two Passport Type photographs – with white background on picture-quality paper. Note: Do not staple or affixed the photographs on the form.
  • Copy of inbound and outbound travel itinerary or a letter from travel agents, airline, steamship company, confirming the purchase of tickets.
  • Invitation letter from counterparts in Indonesia, describing the purpose of the visit.
  • Business Letter from U.S. company
  • Inoculation is recommended but not mandatory, and is required only if applicant had previously traveled to areas/ countries infected by yellow fever.

Restricted Areas: There are regions of Indonesia that foreigners are not allowed to visit without written permission of Indonesian authorities. The regions are Maluku, Poso, Irian Jaya, and Aceh. Those wishing to enter these regions must obtain a permit or authorization from the Department of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta. Those visiting Aceh region for work or having activities related to the Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Agency (BRR) must have authorization from BRR before applying for the visa.
