Visa Requirements for U.S. Citizens

Citizen of the following countries are eligible to apply for an ETA (Electronic Travel Authority) to visit Australia:

*Holders of Hong Kong British National (Overseas) (BNO) passport are not eligible to apply for an ETA visa.

Visa Requirements for Non-ETA Eligible Countries

  • Travel the World Visas Service Order Form
  • ACTUAL PASSPORT – You must send your actual passport. The visa will be stamped on a page in your passport. Your passport must have at least 6 months of validity left beyond your intended stay, and must have at least TWO blank visa pages side by side. Amendment pages (pages 22, 23 and 24) do not count.
  • VISA APPLICATION FORM FOR AUSTRALIA – Select a visa application form for Australia:
  • ADDITIONAL CHARACTER DECLARATION (Form 1190)
  • TWO PHOTOGRAPHS – Each applicant should submit two color photographs. Photographs should be 2″ x 2″ in size, taken against a plain white background. Snapshot or computer picture will not be accepted.
  • ITINERARY – Confirmed Itinerary or copies of your round trip air tickets is required.
  • PROOF OF LODGING – Hotel confirmation from the hotel you are staying at while in Australia. If visiting friends or family, letter of invitation which includes name of friends or family, address and telephone number in Australia is required.
  • HEALTH INSURANCE – Proof of health insurance with medical coverage valid while traveling abroad.
  • PROOF OF FINANCIAL SUPPORT – Proof of financial support, i.e. bank statements or copies of the last 3 pay stubs.
  • LETTER FROM EMPLOYER – Letter from employer verifying your employment and stating that you will be returning to the job after the trip.
  • LETTER FROM APPLICANT – Letter from applicant explaining purpose of trip and plans for the stay in Australia.
  • PROOF OF U.S. STATUS – Non-U.S. citizen should submit proof of U.S. status (e.g. copy of U.S. permanent resident card or copy of U.S. visa).
  • FIT FOR TRAVEL CERTIFICATE (For age 70 or over)Applicants age 70 or over must have a Fit for Travel” certificate” completed. This does not need to be completed by a panel physician, but must be filled out be a registered Medical Doctor.
  • BUSINESS LETTER (For Business only) – Applicants applying for a business visa should submit a business letter from the U.S. based company explaining the purpose of the visit. Business letter sample format

For Official or diplomatic U.S. Passport Holders, Visa is Required.

OFFICIAL or DIPLOMATIC PASSPORT HOLDERS ONLY

  • Submit Official or Diplomatic Passport, must be signed, have at least six months remaining and one blank visa page
  • 1 Visa Application Form 456 completed and signed
  • 2 Recent Passport Type Photographs
  • Letter from sending Government Department or Agency, addressed to ” Embassy of Australia, Visa Section, Washington D. C. “detailing the applicant’s name and occupation, Purpose of the trip, Dates of the trip and contact person in Australia
