Ethiopia – Passport and Visa Required

Visa Requirements for U.S. Citizens

NOTE: There are 2 types of visas, 1)  Evisa is already available for tourist or business purposes.  2) The embassy can also issue a “traditional” paper visa (visa sticker in your passport), this is only applicable for tourist or diplomatic travel.

General Requirements for E-visa application:

  • Copy of the passport data page – must be valid for at least 6 months from the intended date of entry to Ethiopia
  • One E-Visa Application Form completed and signed
  • One recent passport type photograph (jpeg file)
  • Computer generated flight itinerary from the travel agent or copy of roundtrip airline ticket
  • Travel the World Visas Service Order Form

Journalist
A letter of support not expired more than one week from the media institution of the country to which the person was invited.

 

Investment
1) Official application letter written by the inviting organization addressed to the Immigration and Citizenship Service of Ethiopia
2) A support letter (a proof you are traveling for investment purpose) from the nearest Embassy of Ethiopia
3) Business License of the inviting company
4) Support letter from Investment Commission of Ethiopia

 

Ethiopian Government Institution  Short Task Visa
1) A letter of support requesting services from government offices or institutions that has not expired more than one wee ago
2) A Copy of t he GIV foreign investor employee visa that was recently extended and the last extension, if applicable

 

Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) Work Visa
1) Copy of NV (Non-Government Entity) visa/last extended, if recently extended
2) A letter of support not expired more than one week from the international or continental organization to which the person was invited
3) If it is a relief organization, the renewed recognition certificate of the organization
4) TIN (Taxpayer Identification Number) Certificate of the inviting company

Foreign Business Firm Employment Visa
Foreign business firm employment visa is issued to foreign nationals who are entering Ethiopia to be employed by business firms owned/operated bu foreigners.
1) A letter of support requesting services from the organization he was invited to that has not expired more than one week ago.
2) A letter of support from the minister of labor and social affairs stating that he was granted a work permit
3) Business license of the inviting company
4) A copy of the WV foreign investor employee visa that was recently extended and the last extension, if applicable
5) TIN (Taxpayer Identification Number) Certificate of the inviting company

NOTE: The duration and the validity of the visa  starts counting from the date of intended entry into Ethiopia

TOURIST Visa – the embassy can is still issuing visa sticker in the actual passport:

  • Valid and signed U. S. Passport (valid at least 6 months beyond the date of entry; with at least one blank visa page) – photocopy is not acceptable
  • One Visa Application Form completed and signed. The application form must have original signature.
  • One Passport type photograph
  • Computer generated flight itinerary from the travel agent or copy of roundtrip airline ticket

OFFICIAL OR DIPLOMATIC TRAVEL

  • Valid and signed U. S. Passport (valid at least 6 months beyond the date of entry; with at least one blank visa page) – photocopy is not acceptable
  • Two Visa Application Form completed and signed. The application form must have original signature.
  • One Passport type photograph
  • Letter from sending department or agency, confirming the purpose of travel and dates of the intended visit.
