Mozambique – Passport and Visa Required

Visa Requirements for U.S. Citizens

For tourist or business purposes – visa exempt for 30 days stay (from the arrival date).  Hotel reservation and flight itinerary will be presented at the immigration upon arrival.

NOTE: If applying for a work or residence visa, the marriage certificate of the applicants MUST be authenticated by the Secretary of State where the document was issued, and then authenticated by the US Department of State, and legalize by the Embassy of Mozambique.  Travel the World Visas will be able to assist with the entire process of the authentication and legalization.

 

  • General Requirements:
    • Travel the World Visas Service Order Form
    • Submit an original passport, valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry into Mozambique and with at least 2 blank pages for visa. Amendment pages are excluded.
    • Citizens other than from United States of America and Canada, but living in these countries must submit a copy of their permanent residence status.
    • Fill the visa application form properly. It is very important that you provide all the information required, including the name and address of your place of stay in Mozambique. Please be advised that lack of information may result in delay or even denial of your application. Do not forget to sign the application (Electronic signature is not acceptable). Please download the form in the following link:  visa Form
    • Submit two passport size photographs (passport photos must be in color and with a white background).
    • Invitations by non-citizens living in Mozambique must include a copy of “DIRE” as proof of residence.
    • Groups of visitors invited by organizations are required to attach one invitation per visa application form.
    • Persons under the age of 18 must attach a parental travel consent letter (must be translated into Portuguese by an official sworn translator) and their original birth certificate to the visa application form.
    • If the applicant has been in a Yellow Fever endemic country, he must present a Vaccination Certificate, both at the Embassy and at the entry border post.

Additional requirements for Work Visa:

Work Visa:

  • Invitation Letter from the employer (company) in Mozambique
  • Termo de Responsabilidade and a copy of the host’s Mozambican ID (b.I.).  If the host is not Mozambican, a copy of the D.I.R.E (residency document) must be provided instead. Please note that the Termo de Responsabilidade must be provided by the host/invitee. This form can be obtained from the nearest Immigration Office in their area.  Please provide telephone #, address and email address of the Mozambican host.
  • Copy of authorization letter from Department of Religion in Mozambique
  • Flight Reservation
  • Recent three (3) months’ bank statements of the c0mpany, organization, or church of the HOST/INVITEE. Each page must stamped and signed by the manager or any high-level officer.
  • Clean bill of Health (must be issued within 3 months).  This must be authenticated up to the US Department of State in Washington DC.  and recognized by the Embassy of Mozambique.  Once authenticated, this  must be translated into Portuguese by an official sworn translator.
    Note: Travel the World Visas will be able to assist you with the police report authentication and legalization as well as the official Portuguese translation.
  • Copy of work contract in Mozambique.
  • Copy of Police Clearance from your current residence (must be issued within 3 months), authenticated by the U.S. Department of State in Washington DC D.C. and recognized by the Embassy of Mozambique.  Once authenticated by the US Department of State, it must be translated into Portuguese by an official sworn translator.  Note: Travel the World Visas will be able to assist you with the police report authentication and legalization as well as the official Portuguese translation.
  • Actual Marriage certificate authenticated by the US Department of State in Washington DC and recognized by the Embassy of Mozambique.  Once authenticated by the US Department of State, it must be translated into Portuguese by an official sworn translator.

Residence Visa:  

    • Invitation Letter from the employer (company) in Mozambique
    • Termo de Responsabilidade and a copy of the host’s Mozambican ID (b.I.).  If the hoset is not Mozambican, a copy of the D.I.R.E (residency document) must be provided instead. Updated requirements for a Visit Visa. Kindly note that while there are no changes to the Business Visa requirements, the Embassy no longer issues Business Visas unless the applicant is not eligible to apply an Evisa.

Applicants who are not visa-exempt may still apply for either a Tourist or Business Visa via the eVisa platform.

Visit Visa – Required Documents:
  • Copy of passport data page (not less than 6 months of validity)
  • Completed and signed application form (no electronic signatures)
  • Copy of the approval email
  • Flight itinerary
  • Printed and signed Termo de Responsabilidade and a copy of the host’s Mozambican ID (b.I.).  If the host is not Mozambican, a copy of the D.I.R.E (residency document) must be provided instead.
